3 Delicious Ways To Use Avocados

One healthy fat source that you should be making sure you take the time to get into your diet on a regular basis is that of the avocado.  Avocado’s are a great source of monounsaturated fats, so will help to keep your heart healthy and lower your overall cholesterol levels.

In addition to that, they’ll also supply you with a good dose of vitamin E, which is important for keeping your skin and nails as healthy as possible.  Finally, they’ll also provide some dietary fiber, helping to stabilize blood glucose levels and keep hunger at bay for hours at a time.

But, if you’re like many, you may not know what to do with an avocado.  On its own, you may find that the taste isn’t all that enjoyable and as such, avoid this fruit entirely.

There’s no reason to let this happen however. There are plenty of ways to serve up the avocado that you are sure to enjoy.

Here are 3 delicious ways to use avocados

Salmon Salad

Canned salmon is a terrific source of protein and omega 3 fatty acids, however it’s almost always prepared with high fat mayonnaise.  Switch it up.

Instead, mash your salmon together with a half or quarter avocado and add in some diced onion if desired.  You’ll now have a very healthy protein source on your hand that also packs in a good dose of healthy fats as well.  Serve this in a whole wheat pita or in some celery sticks if you just need a quick snack.

Avocado, Tomatoes, And Toast

Another great combination to consider is toasting a slice of whole wheat bread and then layering it with some avocado slices and tomatoes.  Eat this along with a protein source and you’ll have a complete meal on your hands.

Experiment with other vegetable-avocado combinations as well to suit your preferences. You might find for instance that you prefer cucumber over tomatoes.

Avocado Smoothies

Finally, don’t overlook simply adding some avocado into any smoothies you’re preparing. As the flavor is quite mild, it’ll work well with just about any fruit smoothie, so you’ll hardly notice it there.  But, your body will definitely notice the nutritional benefits it’s giving you.

Just do watch how much avocado you add into that smoothie as it is a very energy dense food.

So keep these quick tips in mind and start making good use of the avocado in your menu.  It’s one food that you can’t afford to overlook.
