Weight Loss Shakes – GOOD or BAD?

Shakes are quick, portable, and convenient and usually low in calories, which means they can help you work toward your weight loss goal.  So weight loss shakes, are they good or bad? There are some downsides so it’s important to get as much information as you can about them before you start replying on them.

Nutritionally, shakes don’t hold the value or real fresh food however supplement it with a nutrient-packed, low-calorie snack such as a small fruit salad or a serving of brown rice.

Shakes are convenient in our busy world. Often no preparation at all is involved.  They do provide some nutrients and will help keep you full, shakes are much better than skipping a meal.

In the long term, trying to lose weight or change your physique with only meal replacement shakes isn’t sustainable. The most successful long-term weight maintenance programs involves real foods and minimal sugar. If you get rid of the sugar you will get rid of the fat. It’s a simple formula. Training your brain and taste buds to adjust to the taste of food and drinks with reduced sugar is the key.

Before you begin regularly replacing some meals with shakes, find a shake that doesn’t have a lot of sugar. Lots of shakes taste great because of the sugar content. Remember 4g of sugar on the back label is 1 teaspoon of sugar.

If you feel like shakes are the answer for you, just don’t replace all meals with them, your body and brain still needs real food!
